How To Create Shortcut On Home Screen Android

Google has launched a new app that allows you to create custom shortcuts (widgets) for your Android home screen that link to your favorite actions, easily turning your Android phone or tablet into a remote control for your daily routines. The new app is called Action Blocks (available now within the Google Play store).

This could make for a wonderful advantage for those who have a smart home solution built out at home, allowing you to quickly trigger some of your favorite actions across the network with a simple click on a button. No having to open a separate app or dig through multiple screens to turn on your lights or set your thermostat to a certain temperature. Now, just click a button on your home screen and you're done. The only catch is that it has to be a skill, function, app, or device that Google Assistant has access to.

The new app by Google was actually designed with those with cognitive disabilities in mind–usually due to an impairment or age. This can make it pretty difficult for someone to remember all of the things that can be accomplished on their phone. Like how to send an email, or to call their doctor, Now these can be simple as clicking a custom button, versus having to remember how to access the phone, or dial a number, or even what that number is. A button can be created to start their morning routine by turning on all of the lights in the house, setting the temperature to a new level, and pulling up the news for the day.

Of course, this extends to anyone since it could also make it easy to build out quick remote control functionality for your smart home and other daily routines and tasks that anyone could take advantage of. It is the same thing you can do within Google Assistant, normally controlled by your voice. However, depending on how complex you automate your life through Google Assistant, this could prevent you from having to remember what all of these voice commands and device names are. Or, say you are in a meeting about to leave for home and want to quickly cool down the house without having to say it, type it, or browse through an app. Just sneak the phone out of your pocket, hit a button, and slide it back in.

The app is available now within the Google Play Store and will likely become quite popular as they improve on it. Some individual apps (ie, smart home controller apps) offer the ability to add custom shortcuts to your home screen, but this allows you to bring them all together into one solution, making this pretty powerful.
